About 2022 St. Joe's Picnic for the Kids

For 173 years, generations of friends and families have gathered every August for the annual Picnic at St. Joseph Children’s Home to play games, visit, eat, drink, and volunteer.  St. Joe’s Picnic has been a staple of the Louisville community since before the Kentucky Derby and continues to be one of the largest fundraising events in Kentucky! The proceeds from this event support children who have survived abuse and neglect as well as continue St. Joe’s mission of “Giving Children a Home.”

Why Participate?

For 173 years, St. Joe's has relied upon the support of hundreds of volunteers to make every Picnic a success. We are finally able to return to a normal event this year. It will be so great to see all of our friends and long-time volunteers and supporters out on the Picnic grounds enjoying a full-size event again.

But some folks can't make it out to the Picnic and would still like to support our event. Online fundraising is a way to let your friends or family who can't come out in person, support St. Joe's by donating to your fundraising page.

Instead of, or in addition to, running a booth, being a zone leader or bringing your family out to play the games, listen to the music, and eat cotton candy and ice cream, you can support the kids by registering to be a fundraiser. Share your Picnic stories, tell your friends and family why you support St. Joe's and invite them to make a gift via your page.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

When St. Joe’s was first established as an orphanage in 1849, the Ursuline nuns responsible for taking care of the residents came up with the idea to host an annual fundraiser. Originally named, “St. Joseph Catholic Orphans Picnic,” this event was created with a mission to raise needed funding for the day-to-day operating expenses of the orphanage. 173 years later, the mission of Picnic remains the same, as the revenue generated provides direct support to the nearly 1,500 children and family members served each year by St. Joe’s three core programs: residential treatment, foster care and adoption, and the child development center. Today, St. Joseph Children’s Home is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency and the Picnic has given support to over 75,000 boys and girls since its inception. Every dollar raised goes directly to help child survivors of abuse and neglect heal from their traumas as well as find new forever families. Thanks for supporting SJ Kids!
