About 2021 Strides for Stronger Families Fitness Challenge

Don't Forget!!

All registrants can pick up their t-shirt at the Champion’s Circle Drive-Thru at SERVE on Friday, April 16 from 12pm – 4pm, at 10056 Dean Drive Manassas, VA 20110. Notified leaderboard participant winners will also be able to pick up their prizes!

Join us as we kick off our first-ever Virtual Fitness Challenge! If 2020 taught us anything, it's to expect a new normal, even if it's temporary. So, to help keep everyone safe and healthy right now we are transforming our annual Strikes for Stronger Families Bowl-a-thon for SERVE into the Strides for Stronger Families Virtual Fitness Challenge.

For each minute of fitness activity (cycling, running, walking, swimming, yoga, weight training, etc.) logged on Strava (a free app) or your personal fundraising page, we will raise funds for our Greater Prince William County neighbors in need. You can invite your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to take part in the Challenge or donate to your fundraiser. An integral part of our Strides for Stronger Families Challenge is our goal to collectively log 35,000 minutes of fitness activity to represent the 35,000 Northern Virginians that seek out our services annually. The Fitness Challenge will take place from April 9th – 15th.

Northern Virginia Family Service’s SERVE campus addresses the immediate needs of families and individuals in crisis by offering them the stabilizing support they need to become self-sufficient and develop the potential for future success. While the event looks a bit different this year, the purpose is still the same – to build a stronger Greater Prince William Community.

How to participate:

  • You can create a team, join a team, or register as an individual.
  • Set up your fundraising page and share with family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. Don't forget to personalize it!
  • Track and log your fitness activity minutes between April 9 (starts 12:00am) and April 15 (ends 11:59pm).
  • Download the free Strava app prior to April 9 if you want to log your activity from your smartphone (you will be prompted to connect to your Strava account on the back-end of your fundraising page starting April 9). Minutes can also be input manually through your personal page. Click here for a tutorial on how to do both.

  • Don't forget to have fun!

• Upload photos or videos of your participation. Photo sharing options are available on your personal page.
  • You have the opportunity to connect your fundraising page to your Facebook profile, and any donations raised through Facebook will magically appear on your Strides fundraising page. To set this up, log in to your Strides fundraising page and click "Manage my page." Then click "Create a Facebook Fundraiser" on the left-side menu, and follow the prompts from there.
  • Starting April 9, fun challenges will be available to help you earn extra points so you have the opportunity to win additional prizes.

  • As you fundraise throughout March and April, don't forget to check back in on April 9 to start the Challenge!

    Join the Strides Fitness Challenge!

Unlike a traditional walk/run/bike race, this virtual fitness challenge allows individuals and teams to participate anywhere they are and any time, day or night; rain or shine; inside or outside, between April 9 and April 15, 2021. Participants continue to do the things that they normally do to stay active, all knowing they are raising vital funds for NVFS' SERVE Campus.

There's no registration fee for the Strides Fitness Challenge. Instead, we encourage you to jumpstart your fundraising with an initial contribution to set the pace for your friends, family, and co-workers to follow.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

Northern Virginia Family Service's SERVE Campus addresses the immediate needs of families and individuals in crisis by offering them the stabilizing support they need to become self-sufficient and develop the potential for future success.  The SERVE Campus houses a variety of programs that help our neighbors receive the immediate assistance they need, such as food and shelter, rapid re-housing, healthcare access, and early childhood education.

By participating in the 2021 Strides for Stronger Families Fitness Challenge, you are helping NVFS provide the continuum of programs and resources that help us transform the lives of thousands of families in the Greater Prince William Community each year so they don't just survive, but thrive!

Thank you for your support of NVFS' SERVE Campus!
