Emily's Walk for Work & Grow

Emily Dougherty, Easterseals development assistant, celebrated her love of Irish culture by taking a 3.6 mile walk on the Loveland Trail on St. Patrick's Day.

The walk distance of 3.6 miles signified the nearly 3600 mile distance between Cincinnati and Dublin. Because her family St. Patrick's Day celebration was thwarted by the pandemic, Emily wanted to do something fun but that also made a difference - a walk for good. With a wonderful outpouring of support from family and friends, Emily raised over $5,000 for Easterseals Work & Grow Summer Camps!

Emily shared her reason for wanting to help young adults living with disabilities.

"As someone on the autism spectrum who has struggled with OCD and anxiety my whole life, it felt SO good when I finally got a job. Employment is such a great opportunity for many reasons, but it can also seem intimidating for those who struggle with various disabilities. That’s why I am hoping to raise $2,000 for Easterseals’ Work & Grow Summer Camp, so young adults with disabilities can learn valuable skills that will help them on the road to employment – because EVERYONE deserves this opportunity to thrive in their community!"

Kudos to Emily for smashing your goal and making dreams come true for campers this summer!

Easterseals has been serving people with disabilities for over 100 years. In the Tri-State area, Easterseals focuses on preparation and training for a life in the workforce. Because work is more than a paycheck. It's affirmation and independence. It's inclusion and equity.

Thank YOU for making a difference!

Just like everyone, 2020 left many young adults living with intellectual and developmental  disabilities without regular activites like going to school or work. Easterseals created a solution for those who are safely able to participate in community activities.

In 2021, we've expanded our Work and Grow Summer Camps for people ages 16-25 to come together for job skills training, fun and friendship.

Can YOU support empowering young adults with disabilities in their journey to employment by making a gift? Think of the possibilities!

You can also rally your friends and family to join together to raise $265, the cost of a week of summer camp. It's easy. Just register below to set up your very own fundraiser for INCLUSION!
