1 in 3 food bank recipients in Windsor-Essex County are children. We know that locally, families rely on school nutrition programs to help feed their children nutritious meals. During the summer, when schools are closed, those meals are no longer available. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many schools to close several times, making the need for food support even greater. Children need healthy food to grow and thrive, and that's why we're committed to ensuring that no child goes hungry in our community.
United Way's Summer Eats for Kids program provides children and families in Windsor-Essex County with nutritious snacks, fruits and vegetables during the summer months when school nutrition programs are closed. The program also offers books for children and families.
Where is the Food Distributed?
The Summer Eats for Kids program offers a drive-thru/pick-up service in the parking lots of empty schools throughout Windsor-Essex County. The program runs from July 5 - August 27, 2021 with the goal of delivering 500 food boxes weekly to community pick-up locations in West Windsor, Downtown Windsor, and Leamington.
