I Am Making A Difference with My Miles!

This year, I registered for the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon event as a member of NOCC TEAM TEAL, because I want to raise awareness and funding for National Ovarian Cancer Coalition . My support will help improve the lives of individuals, families and communities touched by ovarian cancer and I need your help.

My Mom's story:

At age 47 I was diagnosed with low-grade, stage III C serous ovarian carcinoma after suddenly experiencing some pain under my ribs from none other than laughing from a game of Pictionary. I underwent optimum, debulking surgery, and IV and IP chemotherapy, which saved my life.

My ovarian cancer journey has changed my outlook of my life, making me appreciate the blessings I have, in particular the love and support of my family and friends, and to never take another day for granted. It has made me stronger as a person and a beacon of hope for others suffering from this unrelenting disease.

Ovarian cancer has a profound impact on the life of the person with the disease, but also on the lives of one’s caretakers, one’s family. Brianna was 13 years old when I was diagnosed. She was old enough to understand the implications of my disease and that she was at real risk of losing her mother. She watched me as I fought back, despite the treatment making me weak, nauseous, and thin. She was by my side when I gave in to my hair loss and had my head shaved. I remember her trying on different colored wigs to try and make me smile. She helped out around the house doing chores, I was too weak to do. She tended to my needs, be it sitting by my bedside on chemo treatment days at MSK or bringing me food I had no appetite to eat, rather than being just a kid like most other 13-year-olds were. My whole family helped me beat this disease and I am indebted to them all. For this reason, I am extremely proud of Brianna for running the NYC marathon in support of Team Teal. She is a true Ovarian Cancer warrior as well.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts. Dollars raised for the NOCC support national programs and local market initiatives to heighten awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, assist newly-diagnosed patients throughout the country, provide ongoing support to caregivers, and advocate for the advancement of ovarian cancer research.

Will you please join me to help save lives by donating today?
