About 2 Years Since Hurricane Florence
Since Hurricane Florence, WARM has helped 187 families with critical home repairs. Still, 79 families are waiting for assistance- people like Vernon and Loretta Gore.
Mr. & Mrs. Gore have lived in their home for over 46 years! During that time, they have fostered over 25 children and do everything they can to give back in their community.
This is our opportunity to give back to them.
Hurricane Florence damaged their roof, resulting in water damage to the floors and windows. They also have a rundown HVAC unit that caused their electric bill to skyrocket each month.
"We've never had a central heat or air conditioning unit. We still use baseboard heaters. It is not economically efficient for us as our light bill to use them in incredibly high. Some room baseboard do not work. Therefore, we have to keep living room heated constantly to keep front of house warm." Vernon wrote in his application to WARM.
These compounded issues have resulted in both Loretta and Vernon being in and out of the emergency room with health related illnesses. Not to mention Loretta has developed asthma due to her home's condition.
"We've been sick because of the home we live in."
Vernon wrote in his application, "by coming out and providing us with more operable HVAC and fixing our roof, will allow our home to be more comfortable and more cost efficient, especially for our foster children."
We would have normally raised money for their roof at our annual Raise the Roof Gala & Auction. All WARM events have been postponed until 2021 but we don't want the Gores to wait any longer.
