Since 2006, The Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh has worked to build a more inclusive community by engaging people with diverse abilities in fun and accessible social activities which build meaningful friendships and provide opportunities for equal contribution. Each year, we offer more than 150 activities for a wide range of interests, including Cooking Club, Sports League, Sunday Circle, Family Fun, and Friends on the Town for adult members, to name a few. We also host holiday events, parent nights, leadership training for youth and teens members, among others.
We seek to be a lifeline to individuals with and without disabilities in our community who need us by offering an array of meaningful and tailored opportunities. Our hybrid programming model, developed last summer to address the challenges of the pandemic, continues to connect our friends and includes a variety of in-person activities both outdoors and in our building with health and safety protocols in place, as well as virtual program options and meetups. We have executed well over 400 events and experiences since recommendations for physical distancing began in March of last year, including cooking, painting, yoga, dance, games, zoo tours, baking, learning and leadership opportunities, and much more.
We are approaching the 2021-2022 program year by offering a variety of in-person activities along with virtual options similar to our offerings during a “typical” year but with alternatives to participate per the comfort levels of our members and families. We will continue to track changes in health and safety recommendations and are prepared to adapt our programs throughout the year, as needed, so that our members and community stay safe and connected no matter the circumstances.
We believe that friendship is priceless, so participants pay no fees for The Friendship Circle’s programs. This enables people from all backgrounds to be part of our Circle.
