Why Walk?

Our community is at risk of losing the people that make it thrive.

According to the MA Office of Housing and Livable Communities, approximately 50% of the Cape Cod Workforce lives off-Cape. This workforce includes police officers, firefighters, teachers, healthcare workers, car mechanics, sales associates, restaurant workers, checkout staff at grocery stores, contractors, and landscape workers, among others.

In addition, 37% of homes on the Cape are seasonal and second homes.

How does HPC help?

HPC works to prevent homelessness by helping individuals and families on the Lower and Outer Cape stabilize their living situations, so they can remain living and working in our community.

  • In 2025, HPC supported 2,853 people in 1,411 households with personalized case management. Only five of these households entered shelters.

  • HPC is the only long-term personalized case management option on the Lower and Outer Cape. Its approach is specific to the individuals and families it serves. HPC case managers work cooperatively with more than 60 Cape Cod organizations to ensure that each client has access to all of the benefits and services that might be applicable to their situation.

  • The is a significant fundraising event for HPC. All funds raised in the walk support HPC case management services. This walk is also a way to show up and say that housing matters for thriving and sustainable communities
