Hurray it’s 2021! We are putting our fins together to create a safe and fun event for our 18th year of Women Swimmin’ for Hospicare. As we ride out the wave of COVID-19, we are following State Department of Health and Center for Disease Control protocols and the advice of our Medical Director to assure the safety of our community.
As of February, we are planning for a hybrid event that allows people of all ages and all genders to participate by doing any activity in support of Hospicare.
But what about the lake event? Due to the complex logistics of planning the lake event, we will need to make a decision by mid-April about whether or not we can hold the traditional lake event.
Stay tuned! And no matter what, we hope that you will help support compassionate care in Cortland and Tompkins counties by participating.

Women Swimmin' for Hospicare is a community swim (not a race!) for women (and those that identify as women) ages 18 and over. Together we raise funds which go directly to support our patients and their families in Cortland and Tompkins counties. In light of the changing times, our concern is first and foremost, safety for all of our participants. So while we would like to look forward to our swimmin' women swimming 1.2 miles across Cayuga Lake on August 14, or by swimming laps in a pool - we will be working on alternative plans in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. Hospicare needs your support more than ever and we hope our swimmers can count on your generosity to support their fundraising efforts.
Our Mission Statement - Women Swimmin' for Hospicare is a fundraising event that supports the care which Hospicare & Palliative Care Services brings to patients and their loved ones at any stage of a life-limiting illness and/or following a death. Women Swimmin' for Hospicare raises funds and provides information and education about the agency and its mission in a manner that is inclusive, fun, and consistent with Hospicare’s ideal of respect for all people.
Women Swimmin’ for Hospicare is truly a community event with multiple ways for you to be involved!
We know the importance of this event to so many, and also know that you understand why we need to make some changes to ensure the safety and health of all who participate. That's why for 2021, we are asking our community to come together and once again, GO THE DISTANCE for Hospicare! We will make a decision on the lake swim in April with the advice of our Medical Director and local and state protocals in place at that time.
As we’ve done in years past, YOU define what that means, with an added twist. Of course, we hope pools and parks open and provide you with a chance to swim again. But if not, we challenge you to set another goal for yourself -- whether that’s logging your steps, paddling the lake, performing 50 burpees a day, reading 25 new books, starting a garden, reinventing your career, or something else entirely!
In the coming weeks, we will be sharing ideas, and we hope you’ll tell us your creative plans, too.
When you join Women Swimmin', you create ripples of care and generosity which touch the lives of people throughout our community.
Thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors who cover event expenses, 100% of funds raised through Women Swimmin’ for Hospicare are used to help care for patients and support their loved ones.
About 83% of Hospicare’s services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances. Funds raised as a part of Women Swimmin’ for Hospicare bridge the gap and ensure that everyone in our community has access to high-quality and compassionate end-of-life care, regardless of insurance status or the ability to pay.
