So you’ve set up your fundraiser and are ready to get going. What next? Here is a quick list of things you can do to start the process!
Tell Your Story
Telling your story from the heart is the best way to inspire others to donate. Personalize your fundraising page, draft compelling emails and social media posts, and be confident in telling your story. Use images and videos for maximum impact. Talk about how having a craniofacial condition or knowing someone with a craniofacial condition has affected your life or loved one. Be honest. Be passionate. Be sincere. And don’t forget to let people know the difference their donation or participation will make in the lives of everyone affected by facial difference.
Make a List
Think about everyone you know that you’d like to reach out to (friends, family, co-workers, local businesses, your church, synagogue, mosque, etc). Decide whether you’re asking for donations or recruiting for your team.
Share Your Story
Make sure to use a variety of methods to communicate:
Email is a great way to get your story out to many people at once. And, it’s easy to include a link to your fundraising page!
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Snapchat are great social media platforms to share your story. Tap into these networks for fundraising and/or recruiting! You’d be surprised by how many people may be interested in supporting you. Be sure to include #RacesforFaces and tag myFace (@myFaceFoundation on Facebook, and @thisis_myFace Instagram and Twitter). You can also submit your photos and video by Direct Messaging us on Facebook, or if you're not on social media, email us at events@myFace.org.
Video: You can upload your video to your fundraising page and to websites like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. People LOVE videos.
Texts and Calls: with our cell phones always handy, this is a great way to communicate with your contacts. Snail Mail may be old-fashioned, but who doesn’t love getting a letter in the mail?!
Make Your Post Shareable
Use hashtags on platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to get more eyes on your content. It can also help you engage people who have similar interests. Hashtags are important to help people find your posts, but you need to know which ones to use to attract the right audience. For platforms like Twitter, try keeping your hashtag use to two per post. While for Instagram, you can use up to 30, but best practices recommend somewhere between 6-11. Some hashtags you may wish to include in your posts are: #racesforfaces, #rff2020, #changingfaces, #transforminglives, #craniofacial, #cleft, #makeadifference #togetheralone
Importance of Tagging
Remember to tag your friends, family and online community in your posts and encourage them to share your message on their platforms, too. We want to see how you’re getting the message out, so remember to tag myFace in your posts, as well! Use our handle on the following platforms: @myface (Facebook), @thisis_myFace (Instagram & Twitter)
Update Your Supporters and Prospects on Your Progress
Make all of your supporters aware of your progress. Not only is this a way of showing people what you’re doing and what they’re supporting, it also acts as a reminder to those who have yet to donate.
Don't Forget to Say "Thank You"
Make sure to thank your supporters. It can be a call, an email or an old-fashioned thank you note. Recognizing people’s generosity lets them know how much their support means to you and the impact they’re having.
