Welcome to the Timber Trail Red Shirt Rookies Polar Plunge Fundraising page where this year we will be FREEZIN' FOR A REASON! The Timber Trail Red Shirt Rookies comprises of athletes and peer coaches in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. In addition, we have a student from a neighboring school who has joined our team this year. We love the inclusivity and community that we continue to grow while teaching sport skills and collaboration. 

This is the first year that our Timber Trail Red Shirt Rookies will be participating in the fundraising event & polar plunge! In addition some of our participants will be completing the 5k.  We have 3 goals for  fundraising: The first is to be able to purchase 2 adaptive basketball hoops that are inclusive of all heights and abilities. Currently, we attach 2-3 hula hoops on our school gym's hoops in order to create a shooting opportunity for all. It would be wonderful for all athletes/peer coaches to have access to equipment that was designed for their unique, individual needs.  Secondly, we will purchase helmets and mitts for our softball/t-ball seasons, & with the remaining funds, our team would host an end of year celebration/field trip. This would further the connections between all students and coaches. 

On a personal note, Special Olympics holds an incredibly special place in my heart. I spent my early years at Special Olympics events as my mother was the volunteer coordinator for many years. I would dance with athletes, help with awards ceremonies, participate in events with athletes, and had fully immersed myself into this world. At the age of 14, I became the youngest coach for basketball in the state of NY - an honor I did not take lightly. Special Olympics has played a pivotal role in my life and when the opportunity to begin a Red Shirt Rookies program at Timber Trail was presented to me, I jumped at the opportunity. Running this program feels like a full circle moment for me and I look forward to Thursdays at TTE as I know its Red Shirt Rookie day.
