Meet our 2025 Grand Marshal - Kassandra!

At just six months old, Kassandra experienced her first seizure, beginning a lifelong journey with epilepsy. Soon after, she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and underwent surgery to place a shunt in her brain. Despite these interventions, seizures became part of her daily life, shaping her childhood and teenage years.

At sixteen, Kassandra faced her first tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure, a moment that revealed how unpredictable epilepsy could be. Rather than allow it to silence her dreams, she chose resilience and courage. Through years of countless medication changes and challenges in school, she pressed forward, determined to find her voice.

That voice emerged through writing. Kassandra poured her experiences into writing books, using her story to raise awareness and inspire others living with epilepsy. She then created Kassy’s Corner, a safe space where individuals with epilepsy and special needs — along with their families — could connect, share stories, and support one another. What began as a vision quickly grew into a hub of compassion and encouragement.

Kassandra's strength was also deeply shaped by her mother’s battle with cancer. Walking beside her mom through treatment and recovery taught her the power of faith, family, and perseverance. Together, they became each other’s source of courage, reminding Kassandra that even in the darkest times, love and resilience can light the way forward.  Kassandra's life proves that while epilepsy is part of her story, it does not define her. Instead, she embodies strength, love, and determination, turning adversity into purpose and inspiring everyone she meets.

Kassandra continues her advocacy today through the Epilepsy Foundation Long Island and other organizations, promoting education, awareness, and empowerment. This year, her journey is being celebrated as she proudly serves as Grand Marshal at the Walk for Epilepsy at Eisenhower Park. Meet Kassandra at the walk, say hello, and learn more about her inspiring life!
