About the Polar Plunge – The Coolest Event of the Year!

Mark your calendars and get ready to embrace the chill—Special Olympics Alaska’s Polar Plunge is back December 12 at Goose Lake in Anchorage Presented by GCI! It’s shaping up to be the most exhilarating event of the season. Whether you’re a returning plunger or a first-time daredevil, this signature winter fundraiser promises unforgettable memories, contagious energy, and a powerful purpose.

Each year, hundreds of bold and big-hearted individuals come together for this one-of-a-kind event. Dressed in everything from superhero costumes to tutus and team uniforms, participants take a quick (and very cold) plunge into Goose Lake, all in support of Special Olympics Alaska athletes. It’s more than just a fun stunt; it’s a community-wide show of support for inclusion, empowerment, and year-round athletic opportunity.

To participate, all you need to do is raise a minimum of $125, which goes directly toward providing training, competition, and health programs for Alaskans with intellectual disabilities. Your courage helps athletes across the state build confidence, friendships, and lifelong skills—on and off the playing field.

But don’t worry, it’s not just about the plunge. The event is a full-day celebration, featuring music, entertainment, food, and a festival-like atmosphere that draws in friends, family, and spectators of all ages.
