About Stuff the Box
As a financial donor to the Stuff the Box campaign, you are providing stabilizing and empowering services for victims of domestic violence. These are typically women who turn to Harbor House for a safe place to live and ongoing support services while rebuilding their lives. Some come to us with literally nothing but the clothes on their backs when fleeing domestic violence.
Your monetary gift will provide women's empowerment services—such as the necessary resources, household items, and direct support for survivors of domestic violence to rebuild their lives and gain independence. Your gift may provide a family with a deposit for rent or utilities, medication, employability or job skills training, bus passes to get to and from work, car repairs, childcare deposits, baby formula, or legal consultation for protection orders or child custody needs. Last year, Harbor House provided 11,211 nights in shelter for 111 survivors and 123 children escaping severe domestic violence.

DIRECT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Your gift will be use to cover client assistance items for which there is no other funding source currently available. Ultimately, every financial gift to Stuff the Box will eliminate gaps in service as our clients progress toward self-sufficiency. Every gift matters.
Women's Empowerment Services
Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter empowers women of all backgrounds by supporting them while they acquire the skills needed to lead a safe, healthy, and resilient life. Your gift will be used to pay for common expenses, such as the following:
- education and training classes (CNA certification, trade school, etc.)
- employability training
- interview and work clothes
- vehicle fuel, vehicle repairs, vehicle parts or service
- transportation to and from interviews and work
- phone or phone card to communicate with employer, court, etc.
- Utility bills, fees or deposits
- Emergency housing assistance, rental security deposit, application fees or lease termination, storage fees, first month’s rent, moving assistance
- Identification fees; driver’s license fees
- Legal consultation fees
- Medication
- Groceries
Items for children and infants staying at Harbor House
When survivors come to Harbor House seeking assistance, support or shelter, they usually bring children. While they are working toward getting a job and becoming independent, we provide the children with support as well. Your gift may be used for items to support healthy growth and learning for children, such as the following:
- Car seats
- Diapers/pull ups
- Baby formula
- Clothes for daycare/school
- Childcare center deposits
- Birth certificates
- Transportation to and from school
