Animal Explorer Summer Camp

Camp details

Dive into the world of animal welfare and learn compassion, responsibility, safety and care from Humane Society staff and other knowledgeable experts in the animal field.  Campers will get hands-on experiences with both dogs and cats as they learn about what makes them unique and what they need from us as their caregivers.  The Humane Society Animal Explorer Camp is ideal for children ages 7-12.

Camper activities led by camp counselors include:

  • Behind the scene tours of the Humane Society, including the veterinary clinic.
  • Participate in some daily tasks required to properly care for our animals.
  • Get to know dogs, cats, and potentially other animals.
  • Learn how to train a pet with positive reinforcement.
  • Discover why animals are such an important part of our lives.
  • Make crafts for the animals in our care.

Campers will sharpen their observation skills as they learn how animals communicate and rely on humans to be sensitive to their needs.  We have expanded the learning experience with collaborative lessons with other community organizations such as Shelby Farms Park Conservancy.

The cost to participate is $200 per session and includes a t-shirt.

We will provide a light snack (such as chips or pretzels) and water, but campers are welcome to bring their own snacks if they have dietary restrictions.

Children with severe peanut allergies should not register for camp.  We use peanut butter regularly throughout our facility and everyone would likely come in contact with it.

Camps are held at the Humane Society facility located at 935 Farm Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
