For more than 100 years, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has been dedicated to our vision of leading the way because every life counts. Named a Four-Star Charity by Charity Navigator since 2008, designated a Platinum Participator with GuideStar, and accredited by AHAA, the standard in veterinary excellence, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay is dedicated to the highest standards in animal sheltering and veterinary care. Our adoption programs, affordable veterinary services, community outreach efforts and volunteer opportunities are essential to the health and wellbeing of thousands of animals across Tampa Bay.
April is a 6-year-old Chihuahua who was brought to HSTB as a stray. A Good Samaritan found April wandering the streets of Tampa alone and knew she needed help. We were able to connect with April's family who said they would come to get her, but they never showed. Poor April had been abandoned.
But April's hardships did not end there. When the HSTB veterinarians examined April, they noticed that she had a rare condition known as Microphthalmia, meaning her eye was severely underdeveloped due to a Vitamin A deficiency during gestation. We had to remove April's eye, and she went into the home of one of HSTB's volunteer foster parents, who nursed her eye and her spirit back to health. Once she was healed both inside and out, she found a loving home and she will never again have to know the sadness of abandonment.
HSTB saves over 13,000 animals just like April each and every year - your support directly funds the medical care, housing, food and enrichment to help every homeless pet find their happy ending.
