Potential lives within every child, and every child deserves a chance to see their potential realized. For over 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region has been here for kids in the Great Lakes Bay Region. By matching adult mentors, one-to-one, with children in our communities, Big Brothers Big Sisters defends that potential and helps change lives and futures today and forever.
Our commitment to child safety means that every prospective Big goes through a thorough background check and reference screening to protect all of the kids we serve.
Our commitment to excellence means that we don't just make matches, but we make the right matches. Match coordinators conduct interviews and interest assessments with both Bigs and Littles to make sure we're building strong mentoring relationships.
Our commitment to lifelong learning and growth means that match coordinators regularly communicate with Bigs and Littles throughout their match. This ensures that matches stay on the right track, any issues or concerns are addressed in a timely fashion, and that everyone involved has access to support when they need it. Our match coordinators also work with Bigs and the parents of our Littles to provide innovative training to navigate difficult circumstances.
Your commitment to Big Brothers Big Sisters means we can continue to provide these resources to our matches, and to develop new resources to serve even more kids in the future.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region, we believe every child is born with incredible potential, and we are committed to continuously evaluating and improving our programs to ensure our Bigs are equipped to defend that potential. Our staff, our Bigs, our Little’s families, and the support of members of our communities makes this impact possible. Together, we are Defenders of Potential.
THANKS TO OUR SUPPORTERS
2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, and Big Brothers Big Sisters' Bigs and Littles are no exception. As the COVID-19 pandemic grew throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region, matches who had spent 2-3 times a month together had to move their meetings to virtual platforms. Our Lunchbox Learners and Teaming Up With Youth programs had to come to an end abruptly as schools shut down. Then as we entered May, many of the families we served faced additional challenges as flooding damaged, or even destroyed some of their homes and communities.
While the future remains uncertain, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region is moving forward to better serve our community, no matter what it takes. We are investing in new digital platforms, and training to allow our matches to stay connected, while respecting social distancing guidelines. We are developing new ways to engage our Bigs and Littles in our Lunchbox Learners and Teaming Up With Youth programs, whether schools can re-open or not. And we anticipate as more local families face the economic consequences of COVID-19 that we will need to recruit and train new mentors to serve the kids on our growing waitlist.
Your support through Building Bright Futures at home makes these efforts possible. Your support is the difference between our Littles just getting by, or thriving and building brighter futures after the pandemic ends.
Through the generous support of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, all gifts made by November 13, 2020 will be matched 3:1, up to $75,000. Don't miss this chance to stretch your impact even further!
