Dr. Dee Mitchell

My Name is Dr. Dee Mitchell, and I’m a two-time Ovarian/Breast Cancer Survivor. I am a U.S. Army Disabled Female Veteran. I am the president of the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California.

My ovarian cancer journey began in April 2010. At 47 years old, I started experiencing severe stomach problems. My symptoms included constipation, dizziness, and pelvic pain, and I had every test in the book done, including upper and lower G.I. Series, CT scans, and blood work.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 3C Breast Cancer and early onset BRCA 1 Gene. Since my first diagnosis, I have completed 82 rounds of chemo. I have been an advocate for ovarian cancer, and I travel around to different states spreading awareness. I am presently a board member for IE 4 Teal in Jurupa Valley, along with other organizations in the community.

Despite everything that I have been through and am still experiencing, I’ve never allowed cancer to defeat or define who I am. When asked how I hold my head up so high, I respond, “What I have been through has made me who I am, a Strong Survivor.”
