Believe…

in being stronger than you seem.

Christi Price

This year, I will be celebrating my 12th year as a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in 2012, 7 months after losing both my parents unexpectedly at age 60. To say this rocked my world would be an understatement. Breast cancer does not run in my family. I believe I got cancer from stress & the loss of my parents. I was completely depressed & didn’t know what to do until the day I was diagnosed. My diagnosis helped my heart finally feel at peace. My parents were together & at peace, and God said now you need to fight for your life.

After a double mastectomy, several rounds of chemo & surgeries with a full hysterectomy. I asked myself, why me? Then I thought, why not me? Cancer changed my life in so many ways. I have the most wonderful family, friends & co-workers; that’s because cancer brought us closer as they helped me with my fight. I’ve always believed that things happen for a reason. That said, I knew something good would come out of my journey. Whether it’s fundraising, bringing awareness to others, sharing my story, or just being there.

My biggest fear is that I may pass this on to my daughter. That fear also lights a fire in me to be actively involved in helping others who are fighting this terrible battle. Hopefully, someday, we will find a cure. Until then, I will always Fight Like a Girl!
