My first diagnosis of Breast Cancer was in 1992. My surgeon was confident that with a lumpectomy, internal and external radiation, and chemotherapy, I would be fine. My doctor was right; after my treatment and for 23 years, I was fine. I was blessed.
In October of 2015, a year after we had lost our older son, I was again diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I was scheduled for a mastectomy, then after a PET scan showed a lesion in my spine, no surgery. I truly feel that the PET scan saved my life. I’m sure without it, the spot in my spine would have gone undetected for long enough to be a major problem by the time it was found. I have been treated with a pill a day since that time.
I am fortunate to have been surrounded by loving people. I saw my son graduate from college, marry, and give us two amazing granddaughters. We have traveled and learned to appreciate and enjoy the world around us and the people we share it with.
I believe that love for and from those who surround you, faith that guides your life, and strength that comes from having love and faith help us get through life’s challenges.
I have been, and am, very blessed.
