In 2013, when I was just 7 years old, I started feeling unusually tired. I didn’t have the energy a kid should have, but no one knew why. Then one day, while riding a tricycle at school, a sharp pain struck my right foot. I couldn’t walk, and not long after, I was diagnosed with leukemia.
As a young child, I didn’t fully understand what was happening. I just knew life had suddenly changed. I began three years of treatment, making regular trips from Palm Springs to Loma Linda. Hospitals became my second home.
What got me through were the things that mattered most: my family, the incredible doctors and nurses who took care of me, and video games that gave me small moments of joy during the toughest days.
In 2016, I finished treatment and was officially cleared. Today, I’m healthy, active, and recently graduated from high school, a milestone that reminds me how far I’ve come. My journey through cancer shaped who I am in many ways that I’m still discovering.
To anyone still in the fight: believe in yourself. Healing is real, and better days are ahead.
