About Bike for the Battle 2020

Bike for the Battle is the Farmington Valley YMCA’s signature fundraising initiative. This is the day where we come together as a community to support and celebrate our small victories against cancer.  Each year, our goal is to raise $50,000 to enable 100 cancer survivors to participate in the Livestrong at the YMCA program.  This event is about STRENGTH, SUPPORT and HOPE!

The Y is a charitable organization, and it uses funds raised through the Bike for the Battle to advance its mission, providing financial assistance to community members in need, supporting vital, life-changing programs and enhancing services.   Bike for Battle ensures that anyone who has battled cancer has a place to belong where they can regain their emotional, spiritual, and physical strength.

One hundred percent of the Bike for the battle contributions go directly back into our Y’s local community. These funds help make it possible cancer survivors and YMCA members to benefit from Y programs and memberships, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Why Participate?

The battle against cancer goes on.

Everyone can say they have someone in his or her life who has had to fight this terrible disease. The first thing that comes to all of our minds when faced with a friend or family member battling cancer is, “how can I help?” Well, there is always a way to do just that, and it’s close to home.

Coming March 28th is your chance to help!  Join us for annual Bike for the Battle, a fundraising spinathon to help support LIVESTRONG at the YMCA.  Sign up to ride for an hour, donate or volunteer. We appreciate all support!

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA is a free 12-week exercise and well-being program to help cancer survivors recover. In the past three and a half years, we have had over 575 cancer survivors go through the program thanks to your generosity and support.

Your support will help continue this program’s ability to enrich people’s lives.  We are asking you to donate in any way that you are able. Whether you make a donation can become a sponsor, you are a key player in helping someone enrich his or her life.  Your donation directly supports the program so it can continue to thrive and help survivors from your community.

Thank you for your continued support—this program truly changes lives!

How Your Support Makes a Difference

"I will be forever grateful for the LiveSTRONG program at the Farmington Valley Y. It is there that I found my old self again, after a cancer diagnosis. Working together with very kind, caring, and professional trainers, our group achieved personal fitness and health related goals. The customized exercise catered to post treatment with supportive encouragement. We became close, made lasting friendships and continue to participate in the Y community, which encourages each of us each day. Thank you for this new beginning."

In September 2018, the LiveSTRONG program was available to me at the perfect time during my "Road to the Cure".  In August 2018, I had started radiation for breast cancer (after undergoing chemotherapy and recovering from a double mastectomy).  In mid-September I joined the LiveSTRONG program.  I am grateful for 5 things.  First, it was a good distraction from my treatment - a place to go with caring folks all around.  Second, it was good to learn all about the opportunities available at the Y for healthy recovery.  Third, the LiveSTRONG staff were so friendly, positive and fun!  Fourth, I started this program on the "angry" side of life.  By the time the program wrapped up, a lot of that anger had dissipated.  Fifth, and most important to me, I met wonderful people who had stood in my shoes - I'm so grateful for the new friendships which wouldn't have come my way if I hadn't joined the LiveSTRONG program.  I see these people at the Y and hope to see them for a long time ahead.  Thank you to all!
