About Audubon New York

The Whether you're inspired by a love of birds, concern for the environment, or simply the joy of being outdoors, the Audubon Birdathon is a wonderful way to make a positive impact—and have fun doing it!

The Audubon Birdathon takes place over the course of a week, giving you the flexibility to participate in a way that works for you. Choose a 24-hour period to count as many bird species as you can, go birding for a single morning or afternoon, or head outside for an hour here and there throughout the week. You can bird solo or form a team with friends and family near or far.

However you participate, every dollar you raise supports Audubon’s work in New York to protect birds across our state—from the shores of Long Island Sound, through bustling cities and quiet suburbs, to the heart of our forests. Beloved species like the Piping Plover and American Woodcock depend on healthy coasts, wetlands, and woodlands to survive—and our conservation efforts help make these vital habitats more resilient for both birds and people.

This year’s Birdathon is dedicated to the memory of our friend and colleague Rich Merritt, who brought energy and joy to this event each year in his role as Audubon CT-NY’s Director of Operations. Rich had a gift for bringing people together—through birding, community, and shared purpose. We hope to honor his legacy through the continued tradition of Birdathon. If you wish to make a memorial donation in Rich's name, you can do so on the check-out page.
