What don’t you accept?

Books with torn/missing pages

Books that have been colored or written in

Water damaged books

Books from public or school libraries

Books that contain inaccurate historical information

Books with “adult” themes

Books that are mildewed

How do I decide if a book is too damaged to donate to Next Door?

As a rule, we always say: Would you feel comfortable gifting the book to a friend or family member? If not, then we won't accept it either. It’s probably best to recycle.

What do I do if people donate books Next Door can't use? Such as adult, or damaged books?

These can be donated to a local charity or Half Price Books or recycled

Where should I set up my book bin?

High traffic areas are best- the easier it is for people to make their donation the more books you will collect. This could mean on your front porch, in a break room or entry way at work, or by the front door at school.

How should I promote my book drive?

Word of mouth, social media, and putting up the poster provided a week before your book drive starts.

Can I do my book drive as a group?

Absolutely! Make copies of the information in your pack and have multiple people take part. The more donation locations the more books you will collect!

Do the books I donate have a cash value for Next Door?

Yes! For every brand-new book Next Door can access $5 of funding.  For every gently used book we get $3. So not only are you providing books for our children you are raising vital funds for our day-to-day programming.

Why do I need to log my hours?

These also have a cash value for Next Door. For every hour you spend organizing, promoting, and sorting books for your drive, Next Door can access $22.24.
