Breakaway Cycling Adventure for Kids with Cancer supporting Childhood Cancer Canada

I volunteered as an RV driver for the National Kids Cancer Ride in September 2019 and we travelled from Vancouver to Halifax.
After the NKCR I am constantly thinking about a young 13 year old girl named Amara. We met Amara and her mom, dad and brother in Winnipeg at the Sick Children’s Hospital and Amara’s mom spoke to our group about Amara’s battle against Stage 4 Advanced Osteosarcoma. Amara’s Cancer had just recently been diagnosed in February of 2019. The family owned a farm in Saskatchewan and had to travel 4 hours to get to the hospital. Amara’s mom was staying in Winnipeg with Amara while her husband and son were managing the farm.
I can’t even begin to imagine the challenges that Amara and her family were going through. Now, today, families going through the devastation of learning a child has cancer, going through the treatments, living away from home and then adding COVID on top of that? Financially...mentally...unimaginable.
Amara, I’m riding for you. My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family.
Taking a rest...at 50 K..,50 more to go Cheryl!
