About Canoe Commute
Every child deserves the chance to live a healthy and happy life. Yet, countless brave young souls are battling pediatric cancer, facing unimaginable challenges that no child should ever endure. We can make a profound impact and bring rays of hope to these young warriors and their families.
Introducing the Canoe Commute
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Flavijo Novina and Matt Andaloro are embarking on an extraordinary journey for an extraordinary cause!
We will be leaving behind the daily grind of conventional transportation and instead, embracing the beauty of nature and embarking on a canoe commute to work. This unique endeavour will start at Snug Harbour in Port Credit, require some portaging from the Toronto National Yacht Club to Canoe Landing Park and span 25km-30km in total, all in the name of raising funds and awareness for The Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO).
Why a Canoe Commute?
Built entirely by hand, the journey to build this canoe started 2 1/2 years ago during the pandemic. The ups and downs of the pandemic is nothing compared to what families go through when a child is diagnosed with cancer. Our hope is that the canoe commute journey will raise funds and awareness to help support the families impacted by childhood cancer and make their journey a little bit less challenging.
How you can help
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, there is no better time to support childhood cancer care and help us reach our fundraising goal.

POGO is a remarkable organization dedicated to helping children diagnosed with cancer in Ontario.
There are over 4,000 families in Ontario with a child or children in cancer treatment or follow-up care each year. On average, 86% of children with cancer survive, but many of these survivors will experience complications either due to the disease itself, complex surgical procedures or the rigorous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy they were given during treatment.
