Chefs Cycle 2022 Supporting the No Kid Hungry Campaign

My name is Christian Ross, and I've been cooking professionally for 9 years. I love cooking and love restaurants however the hospitality industry is limiting to those who can afford it. At Jônt, where I am a sous chef, the three hour experience consists of around 15 courses equating to around 21 "bites" spanning 2 unique dining rooms. Though I am beyond fortunate to have a client base that supports the culinary arts in my hometown of Washington, DC the reality is that a luxury tasting menu is beyond comprehension to many of individuals in the District and United States.
I was privileged enough to never go to bed hungry or experience food insecurity as a child. Hunger is defined as follows, "the feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled the desire to eat." No child should grow up hungry! But too many kids in our country don't have the food they need to thrive. My career is devoted towards bringing happiness and joy through the culinary arts to those who walk though the doors of our restaurant and have the means to pay for it. This May in partnership with No Kid Hungry I am attempting to do the same thing, but for those who are not as fortunate and those always over looked and forgotten in our profession.
Along with other cyclists within the restaurant industry I am proud to say I will be riding in Chef Cycle for No Kid Hungry. For the past eight years, Chefs Cycle has engaged culinary talents who want to push their physical limits while raising funds and awareness in support of No Kid Hungry. This May I will attempt to ride 200 miles in 2 days, in and effort to raise funds towards ending childhood hunger and feeding those marginalized in the culinary industry.
Please considering donating, any support is appreciated but not expected.
Sincerely,
Christian
Since March 2020, No Kid Hungry has distributed more than $100 million in grants to schools, local nonprofits and others feeding kids in need. These funds have helped grantees serve more than 1.5 billion meals to children and families. However, our work is not done. In the wake of the coronavirus, millions of children in the United States are still facing hunger – as many as 1 in 6 kids this year. No Kid Hungry has a plan to make sure those children are fed, as the crisis continues and in the recovery to follow. Will you help us end childhood hunger?
