About National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Designated as a national month of observance since 1983, April is a month for communities to dedicate themselves to playing an active role in preventing child maltreatment and taking positive action to support children and families.
As President Obama stated in his 2016 Presidential Proclamation, this is a time when "we recommit to giving every child a chance to succeed and to ensuring that every child grows up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment that is free from abuse and neglect."
This April we invite you to join us in taking steps to prevent child maltreatment by taking literal steps!
A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds and 5 children die every day from abuse and neglect. For nearly 120 years, Children’s Bureau has been working to reduce these staggering statistics through their innovative and cutting-edge child wellbeing programs. Children’s Bureau strengthens children, families, and communities by providing maltreatment prevention programs, mental health services, and foster care and adoption support to over 49,400 children and parents annually throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
When you register, peer-to-peer fundraise, or make an additional donation, the money is making a big impact in the lives of children. Your donations support child maltreatment prevention programs which help children and parents who are facing serious stressors like financial strain, housing insecurity, and mental health struggles - stressors that research shows can make it harder for families to address children’s needs. Our prevention programs offer families the resources necessary to ensure stable relationships, physical and emotional health, and economic security. The fundamental building blocks that allow children to live happy and healthy lives, free from maltreatment.
First place finishers for logged hours of fitness activity and amount raised in donations will receive a prize.
The person who logs the most hours of fitness activity will receive a pair of Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones.
The person who raises the most in donations will receive a Beats Pill+ Portable Wireless Speaker that includes a built in microphone for phone calls.
