About Cure Kids' Cancer Challenge 2023

Announcing the third annual Band of Parents Cure Kids' Cancer Challenge - a virtual event taking place during the month of September 2023. You choose your own date(s) during the month to participate, as well as your personal challenge.

You can walk, run, bike, paddle, swim, hike, etc., and choose your own distance. Participants will have a personal fundraising page, where your network can sponsor and support you. They too can participate and get their own sponsors as well.

We ask that you share repeatedly with your contacts and social media networks. Share that you are walking/biking/running etc. for your child or that you are a supporter of a child.

Each participant has the month of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to do their chosen race. Make a date with friends to do it together. Build awareness across the country and even around the world. We envision neighbors, communities, schools, employers, and faith groups, getting excited to support our Childhood Cancer Awareness Month fundraising effort.

There is HOPE in the air. While many families are struggling with treatment and decisions, the Band of Parents (BOP) Community is working hard to support new and innovative approaches to treat neuroblastoma. BOP started as a small, determined group of parents who held small hometown fundraisers to drive the first humanized antibody project. Today, we hope to spread our mission to your neighborhoods across America!

How Your Support Makes a Difference

With your support, we can find a cure for neuroblastoma, while reducing the highly toxic nature of treatment. One day, we hope antibodies will replace chemotherapy.

Band of Parents is the top independent backer of neuroblastoma research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Our mission is to seek projects that have already been examined in the lab and are in need of assistance to rapidly move into a patient population. In the 1980s, fewer than 5% of children diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma survived. Although today, most major medical centers like MSKCC have over a 50% survival rate, far too many children are still dying of this disease. The sad fact is that due to the high cost of research and the small number of children diagnosed annually, pediatric cancer is severely underfunded by both the pharmaceutical industry and the federal government. Less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s funding goes to fight pediatric cancer. We support our members through their children’s battle with neuroblastoma. Together, we are Bound by Hope that a cure is out there. We will continue this fight until not a single child is lost to this disease.
