Charles Donovan was diagnosed with a tumor in his lungs in 2016. In the years that followed, he bravely battled through a series of treatments. On Saturday, September 11, 2021, he was called home to our Lord. His memory is preserved by those who loved him, those whose lives he touched with his unending kindness, and by the places he was proud to call home. We are so fortunate to have had him in our midst.

Scholarship

The Class of 2022 seeks to honor Mr. Donovan by giving young men the opportunity to attend Loyola Blakefield via a scholarship in his memory.

The idea for this scholarship began in Camden, NJ, during a Loyola-sponsored service trip over the summer of 2021. When posed with a question about fixing injustices in the Loyola community, the retreat members decided to create a scholarship and make it a reality. Inspired by the countless injustices around them, the retreat members believed to make a real change at Loyola, they needed to help the students most in need. The hope is to honor Mr. Donovan and provide opportunity for young men to experience Loyola for decades to come. We hope you'll join us in this effort.

About Charles

Charles Donovan joined the Loyola Blakefield community in 2005 and taught science and coached our Speech & Debate team. He was exceedingly kind, gentle, and never failed to greet colleagues or students with a smile. Always hardworking and diligent in his teaching, Charles devoted countless nights and weekends to the Speech & Debate program, and he is one of the reasons it is recognized as a national leader.
