Double the Impact: SwingPals Giving Challenge 2024 supporting SwingPals, Inc.

At SwingPals, we believe every child deserves the chance to thrive, no matter what their circumstances. For over a decade, SwingPals has empowered children facing adversity in Durham, North Carolina's public schools through golf, mindfulness, and emotional resilience. To date, we have served over 10,000 children, helping them unlock their potential, build self-confidence, and navigate life’s challenges.
Today, the stakes are higher than ever. The U.S. Surgeon General has declared a National State of Emergency for children’s mental health, and SwingPals is answering the call. With your help, SwingPals will expand our programming and introduce a new Director of Operations in 2025 to continue its growth and fulfill its vision of reaching every child in need.
Your support will ensure that more children can benefit from the SwingPals life-changing programming—like building their “Play Box”, a safe space that teaches mindfulness, emotional regulation, and decision-making skills. These tools give children the ability to overcome adversity and succeed both in school and in life.
Thanks to the SwingPals Executive Director, Doug Hodges, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $125,000 until December 31st. This means every $1 you donate becomes $2 for the SwingPals children. Together, we can reach our goal of $250,000 and transform more lives than ever before.
Your generosity will help SwingPals expand programs, bring on new leadership, and provide thousands of children with the skills they need to succeed.
"My son, Fred, joined SwingPals in 6th grade and stayed with the SwingPals through high school. He is now enrolled at ECU studying journalism. When my son joined SwingPals, his disposition was anger, lack of concentration or consideration for others. My son now not only loves golf, but he is also a well-rounded and takes pride in himself. My son would not be the son I have now if it was not for the SwingPals program.” - Jennifer Wright (Fred’s Mom)
"I became a part of SwingPals at Neal and I have continued to play. I really didn’t know what I was getting into but now I enjoy playing golf. The Think Box help me with my golf swings but also in other situations. Many times I have to step back and think about a situation before I respond to that situation. I would encourage other children to try SwingPals they might not like it at first but if they stick with it they will love this sport because it is so much fun.” - Deon L.
Mr. Alec Virgil joined the SwingPals Educators Program as part of the first cohort in November 2023. In this video, Alec shares how what he thought was just a golf program ended up being so much more.
SwingPals has partnered with Durham Public Schools since 2012, reaching over 10,000 students across five middle schools through in-school and after-school programs. In the 2023-24 school year alone, SwingPals served over 1,250 sixth-grade students and expanded to include 500 seventh and eighth graders, helping them develop essential skills in mindfulness and emotional regulation.
The SwingPals Educators Program amplifies this impact, equipping teachers like Mr. Virgil with tools to foster stronger relationships and healthier learning environments. Together, SwingPals and Durham educators are creating a brighter, more resilient future for students who face adversity.
