Bilingual books provide children with the opportunity to read and be read to in their stronger language while at the same time learning vocabulary and sentence structure in the second language.
According to pediatrician Sarah Klein, MD, the fundamentals of reading start as early as infancy through hearing parents and educators reading out loud. “It provides the building blocks for language. And it gives them the tools for forming lifelong social and emotional skills.”
Erie House provides support to school-age students through our literacy intervention program and offers extra layers of after-school support to ensure every child develops reading skills critical to their success.
So this Latinx Heritage Month, support us in collecting diverse, bilingual books that will guide our students to academic greatness.
