6th Annual Epic Battle

Games and Rules

One of the best parts about Epic Battle is the games and we introduce new games every year. Check out the 2019 games below!

Teams earn points for their performance in each game, and the team with the most points wins. Teams have the ability to sabotage one another. However, teams only receive 2 sabotages for the entire event, so choose the game and team you want to sabotage wisely.

Game #1: Spoons

# of Players Required:

Object: To win the game of spoons.

How to Play: Players gather at a table with spoons in a small circle in the center of the table. There is one less spoon than the number of players at the table. Four cards are dealt to each player. The dealer then takes a card off the top of the deck to have five cards in hand, then removes one and passes it facedown to the left. Each player discards to the person on their left. The last player places their card into a trash pile. Cards are picked up and passed quickly around the table until someone gets four of a kind and takes a spoon from the center. Once the player with four of a kind takes a spoon, anyone can take a spoon. The player left without a spoon is out. If at any time the draw cards run out, the game will pause to reshuffle the trash pile and keep going. The winner is the last player remaining. Second place is the second-to-last person at the table, etc...

Scoring: 1st place-10 points, 2nd place-9 points, 3rd place-8 points, 4th place-7 points, 5th place-5 points

Sabotage: None

Game #2: Pizza Box Race

# of Players Required: 12 (If a team does not have 12 team members, team members can participate multiple times)

Object: Be the first team to complete the relay carrying all twelve pizza boxes.

How to Play: Twelve team members line up from tallest to shortest at the starting line. Each team member must run to the opposite side of the field, grab a pizza box and carry it back to your next teammate in line. The players must repeat until the last team member is carrying all twelve boxes. If a box is dropped, the team member must go back to the starting line. To make it a little more interesting, the fifth and tenth pizza boxes will be filled with marbles. The first team to make it across the field carrying all 12 boxes wins the most points and the rest of the places get descending points.

Scoring: 1st place-10 points, 2nd place-9 points, 3rd place-8 points, 4th place-7 points, 5th place-5 points

Sabotage: Replace boxes 3 and 7 with two more boxes containing marbles.

Game #3: Epic Ski Challenge

# of Players Required:

Object: To get across the finish line together on skis.

How to Play: 8-man team, 4 members at a time. Each team member has both feet on the "skis" and holds on to the ropes to lift and move. The first 4 members will race to the end of the field, cross the line with their entire ski, and then hand off their skis to the next 4 team members, who will then race back to the finish line. The first team whose front ski tips cross the finish line first wins the most points.

Scoring: 1st place-10 points, 2nd place-9 points, 3rd place-8 points, 4th place-7 points, 5th place-5 points (If there is a tie, all teams get the same points for that place.)

Sabotage: The first person on the ski in BOTH directions must be blindfolded in each direction.

Game #4: Six Ladies and a Gentleman

# of Players Required:

Object: To finish all of the food on the string without the use of your hands before the whistle blows

How to Play: 6 team members serve as the "eaters" with 2 additional team members holding the pipe. There will be donuts and pickles tied on a string hanging from a PVC pipe. Players will line up behind the start line. At the whistle all teammates run to the pipe and eat their item without using their hands. The item must be eaten entirely before the whistle blows to count for points. If it falls on the ground, it can still be eaten. It does not count if it is not finished entirely. The finish whistle is blown at 30 seconds.

Scoring: 1 point for every item eaten entirely by the time the whistle blows.

Sabotage: Squirt a packet of mustard on one food item.

Game #5: Running Mat Game

# of Players Required: 12, 3 groups of 4 members (If a team does not have 12 members, then the same group can complete multiple legs of the race, but have to step completely out of the mat before moving on.)

Object: To get across the field with team players moving together inside the mat.

How to Play: Each team member has both feet inside the running mat with their arms lifted to touch the top of the mat. The first 4 members will race to the other end of the field, cross the line with their entire mat, and switch players to the next set of 4 members, who will then race back across the field. When that group crosses the line with their entire mat, the next four team members will race back across to the finish line. The first team whose entire mat crosses the finish line first, wins the most points. The rest of the places get descending points. If a team member is out of the mat, the team must return to the starting line.

Scoring: 1st place-10 points, 2nd place-9 points, 3rd place-8 points, 4th place-7 points, 5th place-5 points

Sabotage: The team must navigate around cones placed on the field.
