Q: Do I have to set up a page and fundraise for HES to participate in the event?
A: No, once you have registered for either the 5K or the 1-Mile, you do NOT need to fundraise for us. Participants are welcome to JUST participate in the event on race day, and that's it! However, fundraising for HES is a great way to get your friends and family involved to support our cause! The person or team who raises the most money for HES will win a PAWsome prize package!
Q: Do I have to register with a team to participate?
A: No, you do not need to register with a team to participate. Individuals are welcome to sign up!
Q: Do I have to bring my dog?
A: No, participants do not need to bring a dog to the event to join the 5K or the 1-mile, however this IS a dog-friendly event, so canine companions are welcome!
Q: If I bring my dog, do they need to be on a leash?
A: Yes, dogs need to be on a leash at all times and under control by their handler. Anyone with their dog not on a leash may be asked to leave.
Q: How many of my own dogs can I bring?
A: We ask that participants bring a maximum of 2 dogs per adult handler.
Q: How do I sign up to take an HES Trail Buddy dog on the 1-mile?
A: HES will NOT have enough Trail Buddies for everyone that wants one, therefore we will be lending Trail Buddy dogs on a first come, first served basis. Head to the Trail Buddy Tent in the vendor village on race day to pick up an HES dog. Trail Buddy dog "rentals" will be an additional $25 (donated directly to the shelter) and will be paid at the Trail Buddy tent. Trail Buddy dogs can only be rented by participants age 18+. One dog per person.
Q: Can I take an HES Trail Buddy dog on the 5K trail?
A: No, HES Trail Buddy dogs are only permitted for the 1-mile trail.
Q: I'm raising money for HES, but I'm not seeing the full amount of my registration register as a donation on my page.
A: Part of your registration will count towards a donation: For 5K racers, $15 of your registration will go toward covering registration fees, and the remaining $45 will be considered a donation. For 1-Milers, $10 of your registration will go toward covering registration fees, and the remaining $25 will be considered a donation. The portion that is considered a donation will show up on your individual and/or team pages!
Q: Can I take a stroller on any of the trails?
A: Yes, you are welcome to take a stroller on the trails, at your own discretion. Please note that the 5K has moments of rough terrain. The 1-mile trail is mostly gravel.
Q: What kind of food will be available on race day?
A: There will be complimentary coffee and donuts in the morning, as well as water, Powerade, and complimentary boxed lunch sandwiches for after the race. Vegetarian options included.
