About Turnstone

Our Mission

Turnstone empowers people with disabilities to achieve their highest potential by providing comprehensive services and programs.

Our Vision

Turnstone aspires to a world that accepts and values people based on their abilities.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

At Turnstone, we want to ensure that vital therapies are available to all people with disabilities, regardless of their ability to pay.

More than half of our clients have annual family incomes under $35,000.  More than 90% of these families have limited insurance or resources for coverage of catastrophic disabilities.  Even those who have adequate insurance may run out of coverage after only a few months, when they may require years of therapy to regain their independence.

Thank You to Our Sponsors

On November 23rd, 2019, the Fort Wayne Fire Department will be taking on the Fort Wayne Police Department in a charity Goalball game at Turnstone in hopes to raise awareness for adults and children with disabilities.  The two teams are competing not only for bragging rights, but also to see who is able to raise the most funds in support of Turnstone and their programming. The game is free for people of all ages to attend, with a suggested donation of $5 that will be accepted at the door.

Turnstone will also be hosting a pre-game tailgate in Parking Lot A beginning at 4:00pm. Hop River Brewing will be onsite with beer for those 21+. Fire Police City County Federal Credit Union will also be serving Hot Chocolate and giving away a YETI cooler! Other tailgate food and drink favorites will also be available. Attendees are welcome to continue the tailgate celebration of community and goalball festivities after the close of the charity game.

What is Goalball?

Goalball is the most popular team sport for the blind and visually impaired. The sport originated in 1946 when Austrian Hanz Lorrenzen and German Sett Reindle developed the game as a way to keep blinded WWII veterans physically active. Two teams of three players each face each other across a court that is nine meters wide and 18 meters long. The object of the game is to roll a basketball size ball with bells inside over the opponent’s goal line. Your opponents listen for the oncoming ball and attempt to block it with their bodies. Once they are able to stop the ball and take control of it, they become the offensive team. Click here to watch a short video!
