Greb's 4th Annual Ride for Patty

Dollars at Work - Patient Financial Assistance program

This year, more than 20,000 Albertans are expected to be diagnosed with cancer.

No matter where an Albertan hears the words, “you have cancer,” Alberta Cancer Foundation donors help to ensure they are provided with the best treatment and care available. By supporting the area of greatest need at any of the 17 cancer centres throughout the province, the Foundation is privileged to enhance patient care and improve quality of life. Your generosity is significant towards supporting excellent cancer care within 100 km of a patient’s home.

Participants of the Winky Rides and Greb Glides will help drive the individual needs and vital services of the Fort McMurray Community Cancer Centre including the Patient Navigator program and enhanced care closer to home.

The Patient Navigator Program at The Fort McMurray Community Cancer Centre

Your support of Winky Rides and Greb Glides helps to fund the Alberta Cancer Foundation Patient Navigator Program. This program teams patients with a registered nurse with specialized oncology training to assist patients in rural communities with medical, physical, practical and emotional challenges. They can help patients with understanding a diagnosis, deciding on treatment options or knowing what community supports are available and how to access them. Patients and families who have accessed this program report that navigators contribute to a sense of stability and security by reducing stresses. This program has also been estimated to save the health system at least $1 million by alleviating visits to family physicians and emergency rooms for non-emergent issues.

Enhanced Care Closer to Home

Your support means we can invest in ways to ease the cancer journey for patients by enhancing their care. The Foundation partners with all 17 Alberta Health Services cancer centres where world-class equipment, technology and personnel can help change the lives of patients as well as their families. Your support of Winky Rides and Greb Glides translates into investments such as reclining chemotherapy chairs, blanket warmers for patients during treatment, portable cardiac ultrasounds, vein finders, waiting area upgrades and specialized training for staff at the Fort McMurray Community Cancer Centre.

Albertans helping Albertans. Thank you for making a difference.
