For the past 40 years, Lazarus House Ministries has helped courageous women, men, and children facing material poverty and homelessness. Each Guest is treated with the utmost in dignity and respect. We offer life-saving services in the areas of Food, Shelter, Clothing, Advocacy, and Community Resources. Lazarus House distinguishes itself by comprehensively addressing the multiple facets of poverty and assisting Guests through all the steps of their journey towards greater well-being and economic stability. The support of our generous community allows us to open our doors to more than 27,500 unique families every year; a number that keeps growing as our community grapples with a myriad of personal and economic challenges.
Access to safe and stable housing, nutritious food, and a caring case manager can make all the difference in someone’s ability to see new possibilities and thrive. Your support of the HIKE for HOPE benefits the women, men, and children we assist to help find safety, rediscover hope, and spread the goodness they find at Lazarus House out into the community. RESPONDING TO THE NEED
Both our Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen have seen a tremendous increase in need since March 2020. We do not expect the increased need for food assistance to subside any time soon. Based on Lawrence residents’ experience of earlier crises, the economic impact from COVID-19, and the rising prices of food, housing and gas due to inflation, this community has been hit hard and the recovery of households will be a longer-term process. We will continue, as we have done for the past 40 years, to open our doors and welcome each Guest with kindness and compassion, and walk alongside them as they stabilize, recover and rebuild their lives.
