Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is Walk for Hospice?
A: Walk for Hospice is a national annual fundraising event that promotes awareness of and helps raise funds for community hospice care. Each year, thousands of walkers participate in events organized by local hospice organizations throughout the country. All funds raised during Walk for Hospice events stay within the communities in which they are raised.
Q: Do I need to fundraise in addition to my registration fee?
A: Fundraising is not mandatory in addition to your registration fee. However, Walk for Hospice is a fundraising event, and we encourage participants to aim to raise a minimum of $350 to help our community reach our collective goal of $125,000 for this event. After you register, a personal fundraising page is automatically created for you. We’ll also send fundraising tips to help you get started—then it’s as simple as sharing your link with friends and family and inviting them to support your walk.
Q: Do I need to register with a team or can I walk by myself?
A: You can register individually or with a team.
Q: Do I have to walk the entire 5 km?
A: This year we have different route lengths and you can choose to do 3km, 5km or 7km on the day of the event. We will have route markers and you can turn around at any point along the route.
Q: What is the terrain?
A: The Walk for Hospice route is flat and fully paved, making it accessible for participants of all ages and mobility levels. You’ll be walking through our new neighbourhood, where the hospice is currently being built, so it’s an easy, welcoming route designed for everyone to take part comfortably.
Q: Are we going to the site of the New Hospice Centre?
A: Yes, you will get to see the progress of the construction of the New Hospice Centre.
Q: Can I bring my pet with me on the walk?
A: As much as we love our furry friends, we kindly ask that you leave pets at home for this event. With the large crowd, noise and activity, it can be a bit overwhelming for pets, and we want everyone (including your furry friend!) to stay comfortable and safe. Additionally, pets are not allowed inside Sherwood Village. Please note: service animals are permitted.
Q: I have extra time and know a lot of people who would like to support this event; do you have a Committee I could join?
A: Yes absolutely! We would love to sit down with you and chat more about this volunteer opportunity. Please contact Jennifer Tasca at jtasca@hospicemississauga.ca.
Q: My high school student needs volunteer hours, can they help out at the Walk?
A: Yes, we are looking for volunteers of all ages for various positions. Contact Jennifer Tasca at jtasca@hospicemississauga.ca to find out more.
Q: Is there parking at Sherwood Village?
A: Yes! There is plenty of free parking at Sherwood Village. You should enter through the Il Fornello and Scotiabank entrance.
Q: I still have questions, who can I speak to?
A: Our Manager of Events would be happy to answer any of your questions. Please contact Jennifer Tasca at jtasca@hospicemississauga.ca or 905-712-8119.
