SNAP Challenge 2024

Basic Social Media Guidelines

Taking photos and posting to social media to share your experience and promote the Challenge is vital to its success. This is how we are able to share information, raise awareness, and ultimately make an impact. IFPN will be promoting the Challenge through their existing social media accounts. Please be sure to follow, like and share! You can download SNAP Challenge Graphics to include in your posts or emails in our SNAP Gallery.

Please tag the Interfaith Food Pantry Network and use the SNAP Challenge hashtag in all your posts.

How to Run an Awareness Campaign on Social Media

Now that you’ve set up your fundraising page, we recommend putting together a list of people who would be interested in contributing and learning about the SNAP Challenge.

The SNAP Challenge is a hunger awareness campaign. Who is in your network? Who do you want to make aware of the cause you care about and what you are doing to serve the community and support IFPN?

Anyone in the world can donate to your fundraising page. Think about friends and family, colleagues and professional networks, religious, alumni or sport organizations, social media connections, etc.

Establish Your Promotional Schedule

By strategically planning your social media posts, you can ensure you are spreading the word before, during and after the SNAP Challenge! Below is a suggested timeline of when to promote your page:

  • Upon Registering for the SNAP Challenge: If possible, share your page when you first register for the Challenge. Announce that you are participating, share what the purpose of the Challenge is, and invite your connections to support you or to do the Challenge themselves!
  • Weekend Before the Challenge Begins (July 27-28): Share your individual fundraising goal. A $250 goal is the equivalent of asking 25 friends to donate $10.00. We know you can do it! Personalize your message and share why you volunteer with IFPN, why you care about hunger, etc. Share a pic of the groceries you were able to purchase for the week on a SNAP budge
  • During the SNAP Challenge (July 29-Aug 1): Plan to post at least one image a day along with the link to your fundraising page. Sharing pictures of your meals is a great way to share your experience. Remember to use the SNAP hashtag, #IFPNSNAP24.
  • Weekend after the SNAP Challenge (Aug 3-4): Post about your experience overall and thank those that supported you. Include the link to your fundraising page for any last-minute donations.

Consider posting information from the facts and figures section as a way to address any misconceptions and share the scope of hunger and IFPNs work. Remember to thank you donors for supporting you!

Sample Emails and Social Media Posts

Sample Emails

Email A: Hi XXXX, I hope you're doing well. This year, I'm participating in the SNAP Challenge with proceeds benefiting IFPN, which feeds our neighbors in Morris County. We are challenged with feeding ourselves (and families) for just $6.20 per day, per person. You can help IFPN raise awareness and funds to alleviate the struggle by registering for the SNAP Challenge today. Join the challenge for the week of July 29th – August 1st to eat for $6.20 a day. Or if you don't feel up to the task, donate to my team instead.

Email B: $6.20. That's it for the day. Three meals. SNAP clients are only provided this much per day. Can you manage three nutrient rich meals with that little? Join or support me in this challenge to highlight the importance of supporting our neighbors navigating life on the SNAP program.

Sample Facebook Posts

Post A: $6.20 only gets you through two Garden State Parkway toll plazas, a one-way ticket on NJT from Morristown to Madison but not any farther, and for people surviving on SNAP benefits, is supposed to feed them for an entire day. Join the challenge & support the IFPN--which helps those on SNAP to ensure a healthy, balanced supplement to the little our clients receive.

Post B: $6.20 is enough for two Panera bakery items, and that’s it! That’s also how much SNAP clients are allotted per day to eat three meals. It’s imperative to supplement and provide healthy meals to our neighbors. At IFPN, we feed our neighbors, providing nutritious shopping experiences monthly. Join me in the IFPN SNAP Challenge to raise both awareness and funds as I navigate this challenge for a week. I fortunately get to quit after a week--while so many of our neighbors aren't as lucky. Learn more here.

Post C: Here’s what you can eat for $6.20 a day on SNAP. Meaning, all three meals. That is what our neighbors on SNAP experience every day. I'm participating in the SNAP Challenge supporting the IFPN, which supplements clients with vegetables, fruit, lean meats and protein, dairy and other items to round out a healthy diet. Support me and learn how we support our clients year-round.
