STOP Inc. IMPACT Ambassador Campaign
Tips for Success in Soliciting Donations & Pledges
Once you’ve registered for the peer-to-peer fundraiser and have built your fundraising page, it’s time to start gathering donations. People love to support charitable causes, especially when they can see how much it means to you. Yet, it can be difficult for many people to ask personal friends, family members, and acquaintances for financial support. Start with those you know will be willing to support you and use these experiences and successes to build momentum. It’s always easier to hear a “no” after hearing “yes” a few times.
Tips for Soliciting Donations & Pledges
Please make a list of potential prospects and the best way to reach them. Potential prospects include:
Relatives: Parents, children, grandparents, cousins, aunts & uncles, etc.- Work Acquaintances: Bosses, Co-Workers, Business Partners, Vendors, Clients, etc.
- Associates from group activities: Teammates, coaches, classmates, etc.
- Members of your church/spiritual gathering
- Local Relationships: hairstylist, dentist, etc.
Create your One Cause fundraising page to help you explain your mission and provide a place to direct potential donors to learn more and make online donations. You’ll want to explain why the fundraiser and how funds collected will be used (Make it personal. What does this cause mean to you?) Post announcements on all your social media and networking sites. Invite friends to share w/ their friends to help spread the word. · Send out an email requesting donation with a link to your fundraising page.
Create an Action Plan: Assign specific groups of prospects to target on certain days and/or weeks to keep your efforts focused and not too overwhelming. Write out a script for yourself and practice.Keep offline pledge forms on-hand in case prospects are not ready to make an immediate donation. These should also include your URL.Always remember to say “Please & Thank You”!
1. Work as an individual to get donations
- You earn twice as many points when you donate yourself, so lead by example and get things started for your team! Make it even more interesting by pledging to your friends that you will match the donations made to your team, or perhaps commit to making a donation when a friend/colleague signs up to bowl.
- Ask friends, family, and colleagues for donations using the STOP Inc. IMPACT Ambassador Campaign web page’s templates. Reach out easily to your network through email, text, and social media. Make it personal, and see the donations roll in! Every dollar donated is a point for you and your team.
2. Recruit other people to join your team or create their own team
- You earn 25 points for each Ambassador registration linked to you, so make sure your friends, family, and colleagues sign up through your page or tag you in their registration form (there is a field to identify who referred them).
- Ask the folks you recruit to give an additional donation at the time they register.
- If you are participating with your company, do you have another business in your office building, vendors you work with, or clients who like to give back? Recruit other companies/individuals to participate and get points when they sign up. It is a great chance to connect out of the office by doing some good in the community.
3. Post on social media
- Pick a day during the week to take some fun team photos or videos of you and your team. Create a post on your Facebook or Instagram highlighting your involvement in IMPACT Ambassador Campaign, and have your teammates share it.
- Tag other individuals on social media and challenge them to donate.
4. Fundraise at the (Virtual) office with your colleagues
- Create mini-competitions WITHIN your company. Set some funny stakes, like a pie in the face, and see which department/branch can outraise the others!
- Have a Jeans Day, Hat Day, Badger Fan Day, etc., with $5 for everyone who wants to participate. Collect the money and enter it as an offline donation for your team. (Offline donations can be turned in at your SIAC night, dropped off at the STOP Inc. office, or picked up by one of our staff members).
- Get your customers/clients involved! Put out a tip jar, ask customers to round-up their purchases, run a Penny War between branches/locations, ask customers to donate for a chance at a prize, etc. The IMPACT Ambassador Campaign is a great way to show your clients that you are committed to giving back to the community, so take pride in sharing your involvement!
- Use your company’s gift matching program or ask if you can get one started. If your company offers a match, make sure you know the process so you can not only get your gift matched but tell your colleagues how to secure a match when they make THEIR gift! If your company does not have a gift matching program, see if there is an opportunity to get some corporate support behind your employee engagement.
- Have a Costume Contest at the office or virtually. Pick a fun theme and have your colleagues vote for Best Dressed with $1 per vote. All donations go to your team fundraising (do not forget to post photos of the winner’s videos on your social media for points!).
