During the month of March, we began our conversations about inclusion and accessibility through our First, People: Inclusive Allyship campaign for National Disability Awareness Month. We yielded our platform to friends of Turnstone with disabilities to help shed light on their experiences, identify existing barriers, and share their view of what an inclusive allyship looks like based on their lived experiences. We also shared resources on how we can be better allies for all.
As with many other months meant to recognize marginalized groups, it is important to take what we learned during Disability Awareness Month and apply it to our daily lives. Education on how to be an inclusive ally is a continual learning process, but an important one as we work towards an equitable and inclusive environment for all. Turnstone aims to always seek out and participate in this learning process so that we may continue to work towards our vision of creating a world that accepts, includes, and values people based on their abilities.
Now, during the month of April and far beyond, It's Our Turn to demonstrate our deep commitment towards accessibility and inclusion. It's Our Turn to show that disabilities are just a different way of experiencing the world around us and that humanity shares a common need for validation and inclusion.
Your gift makes a difference, today.
Because of supporters like you, Turnstone is able to serve thousands of people with disabilities each year. But, there are millions more beyond our walls who are in need of resources, support, and accessible spaces.
Everyone deserves to feel a sense of belonging - accessibility and inclusion remove barriers and make belonging possible. For a person with a disability, accessibility can be the difference between feeling like a valued member of the community or feeling outcast.
It is only through collaboration and community that we are able to move forward in making our world more accessible and inclusive. And, through Turnstone's eight-decade legacy, we've seen the Northeast Indiana community remain committed to bettering the world through many collaborative efforts.
When you support Turnstone, you are supporting an accessible and inclusive place for people from not only our own community, but from all over the world.
As supporters, staff, and ambassadors of Turnstone's mission, it's our turn to demonstrate our deep commitment towards accessibility and inclusion. It's our turn to show our clients, and our community, that we value each person for their abilities and we're asking you to join us in showing solidarity.
