Three times each year, our nation pauses to remember and honor first responders who have given their lives in the line of duty. This occurs during National Police Week, National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, and National EMS Weekend of Honor.
These ceremonies and related events can play a vital role in healing.
Finances should never preclude any survivor from being present as our nation honors their hero. Your contribution provides the necessary funding for travel and lodging for all immediate family members. A gift from you also makes it possible for every survivor to have access to 24-hour shuttle service, logistical support, and emotional care from our staff and volunteers throughout the course of the event.
When you make a way for a survivor to see and touch their hero’s name on a national memorial, be it carved in stone or forged from metal, you are showing them that honor did not end when their hero was laid to rest, but it endures.
In 2019, with your help, Supporting Heroes spent $118,000 for travel, lodging, and other expenses in support of grieving survivors from our service area to attend the national memorial services and related events. Due to the cancellation of all 2020 services and the record number of line-of-duty deaths during 2020, we anticipate 2021 expenses to more than double that amount.
Sending families to this year's services constitutes the biggest challenge in the history of our organization. Please consider a financial gift to ensure that these families can be present as their loved one is honored.
