Team Teal: Miles Your Way supporting National Ovarian Cancer Coalition

I run to honor my Mother’s legacy and raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer
Dear Family and Friends,
On April 21st, I have the privilege to return to the starting line in Hopkinton to run the Boston Marathon. It is my most favorite day of the year as I get to spend it with so many of my favorite people, and my Mom. She always shows up in some way, giving me a sign that she will always be in my pocket just like she promised before she passed away on February 3, 2013 from Ovarian Cancer. I still miss her every day, but I channel that into doing what I promised her I would; I will keep running as long as it gives me JOY.
There is even more joy for this race as the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) was accepted as an official charity last year for the Boston Marathon, receiving 5 bibs. I was honored to join Team Teal as their “plus one” and raise money on their behalf as well. The team was so successful in surpassing their goal by such an extraordinary amount they were accepted again this year, receiving 8 bibs! That’s amazing!!!
I have joined Team Teal for many events over the years and every member of the team has a reason why they are running on behalf of NOCC. We run to honor those we’ve lost, to celebrate and support those who are battling this disease, and the most incredible participants to me are the survivors and the women who are currently in treatment. They are resilient, and so incredibly strong it absolutely blows me away. They write their own story and it is so very powerful.
Last November, I got to join two of my daughters running and witness them cross their first finish line at the NYC Marathon. It was my 20th marathon and by far the most magical marathon of them all. To see them run to the pom poms my family has held high since my mom made them for my very first event for me to find them on the course; to see them see what I’ve seen so many times before and jump for joy just as I have when seeing our people, I can’t even describe that gift. I know my Mom was BEAMING and I’m sure she was so proud of them to raise money to benefit the NOCC at just 23 years old.
This is why I run. For joy and connection to my Mom and to raise awareness and funding for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Your support will help improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities touched by Ovarian Cancer. Dollars raised by the NOCC support national programs and local market initiatives to heighten awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer, assist newly-diagnosed patients throughout the country, provide ongoing support to caregivers, and advocate for the advancement of Ovarian Cancer research.April 21st will be my 21st marathon and my 15th consecutive Boston Marathon. I was born on December 21st and my lucky number is 3 as my mom gave me 3 kisses on my cheek before my events and told me when it gets hard to run with my heart. So for this Boston I would like to raise $2153 to celebrate these numbers. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
I am so proud of Team Teal and how much they’ve grown and the difference they’re making in the fight against Ovarian Cancer. This is why I run; I want to turn up the volume on Ovarian Cancer because there is no screening test for this disease like there is for Breast Cancer and early detection is so important. Please go to Ovarian.org to learn the signs of this disease because its symptoms hide as other ailments. If you think you or a loved may have these symptoms, go to your doctor and have them prove to you that you don't have Ovarian Cancer. Listen to your gut and be your own advocate. Speak up and share because Ovarian Cancer needs more COWBELL!Thanks so much for your support!
Love,
Sheridan
