The Matthew Harty Mito Classic began as a neighborhood tradition in North Andover, where friends Jack Pascucci and Mikey Harty grew up celebrating their birthdays with a street hockey tournament. In 2013, after Mikey lost his younger brother Matthew to mitochondrial disease, the event was brought back in Matthew’s memory and reimagined as a way to support families affected by mito.

Matthew’s biggest wish was to attend summer camp, but he passed away before getting the chance. In his honor, the Harty family partnered with MitoAction to create the Matthew Harty Camper Fund, which helps ensure children living with mitochondrial disease can experience the joy and independence of summer camp.

What started as a simple act of kindness has grown into a powerful community tradition. Now in its twelfth year, the Matthew Harty Mito Classic has raised more than $108,000 and helped send over 400 children to summer camp through scholarships awarded in Matthew’s honor.

The 2026 Matthew Harty Mito Classic will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the North Andover Youth Center. Proceeds from the event support MitoAction and the Matthew Harty Camper Fund, helping create brighter summers and lasting memories for children living with mitochondrial disease.

Thank you for being part of this special event and for helping us carry forward Matthew’s legacy!
