Miles of Hope Community Walk for Breast Cancer

2023 marks the 20th year of the Miles of Hope Community Walk for Breast Cancer!  This event has become a staple in the Hudson Valley calendar and we couldn't be more grateful for the support we receive each year!

There is nothing like being together to honor our friends, our family and all those who have been affected by breast cancer and we look forward to continuing our tradition of walking together at James Baird Park. However, you do not have to be present to participate, you can walk wherever you may be and still support the event.

We will host our Community Walk on October 1, at James Baird State Park, rain or shine. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 am, Walk to begin at 10:00 am.

(ALL registrations are online, through this site, prior to the event)

To date, Miles of Hope has given away over $2.8 million dollars in almost twenty years of funding programs to educate and support those affected by breast cancer within the nine counties of the Hudson Valley.  Thanks to you, tens of thousands of people who needed a helping hand while in treatment, did not go without the care and support they required to get better.

As we all know, an active healthy lifestyle is a great way to reduce your cancer risk.   We challenge you to stay active and reduce your cancer risk by exercising every day, walk in Honor or Memory of someone, challenge yourself, your family, your friends to promote a lifetime of good health.

Thank you to everyone who supports us and for helping us reach our fundraising goal.

Together, we all make a difference.

    2023 Community Walk Honoree

Tammy (Tierney) Laird was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. After an incredible fight, she lost her battle in July 2020 at age 49. She was full of strength and life. She never led on to anyone if she was tired or in pain. Tammy was raised in Hopewell Jct, NY with her four older siblings. She married Sean Laird in 1994 and the two followed Sean’s military career around the world for the next 16 years. They made countless friends and memories that she loved to share with everyone around her. Her stories could make anyone smile and feel like they were a part of her life. In these years she had two children, Austin and Olivia and parenthood became her proudest adventure. She was an incredibly devoted mother and never missed a beat, even during her years facing this devastating disease. Tammy was a stranger to none and had an amazing way of keeping in touch with everyone she has ever met. It was rare to find her not chatting away on the phone. She was a best friend to all, a light and a laugh that stood out in every room. In 2013 they moved from Georgia back to New York to be closer to family. Everyone was happy to have the life of the party close again. During her 8 year battle Tammy completed her bachelor’s degree and went on to work as a special education teacher at West Point Elementary School. To no one’s surprise, her students and co-workers fell in love with her spirit and dedication. She took such pride in her job and her accomplishments. There is an endless list of hearts that she touched and we all miss her everyday. Tammy loved volunteering for the different events Miles Of Hope hosted and loved that Miles Of Hope directly helped people in The Hudson valley. Her family and friends are beyond thankful to have Tammy’s life honored this year at the Miles Of Hope Community Walk.

    Who do you walk for?

Our Community Walk is an opportunity to honor our breast cancer community.  We line our walk route with road markers encouraging fighters, celebrating survivors and showing appreciation for those who support along the way.  You may print an "I walk for.." sign (under the register tab) and fill it in with who motivates you! Upload your photos and share your hero(es) with us so that we can all honor them together.
