About MCCP Moonlight Challenge

Due to inclement weather, the giant slalom race at Shawnee Peak set for Friday, February 18th was postponed. We’ll be announcing our “freeze date” soon – keep your eyes out for it!

Calling all skiers, snowboarders, and winter lovers!

The MCCP Moonlight Challenge is the perfect way to embrace your love of the great outdoors, all while raising vital funds and awareness for local children fighting cancer and blood disorders.

From Friday, February 4th until Sunday, February 20th, we invite our participants to take part in the Moonlight Challenge Winter Games by completing ski, snowboard, and/or winter related activities, while taking photos and posting to social media along the way to encourage donations. While we will not be holding a formal, indoor gathering this year, we will be holding the giant slalom race on Friday, February 18th. You'll also find us stationed outdoors at Shawnee Peak on the three Friday evenings within the event timeframe, bringing awareness to our program and cheering on our participants as they hit the slopes!

In 2021, we took the Moonlight Challenge virtual for the first time – and thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, and participants, over $60,000 was raised to benefit our kids at MCCP. This year, our goal is to build off of last year’s success, while encouraging our Moonlight Challenge takers to participate at their own comfort level – whether it’s on or off the slopes, in the great outdoors or from the convenience of their own backyard!

We are all linked together to support the patients and families receiving care at MCCP – so grab your skis, snowboards, and winter gear to take on the 2022 Moonlight Challenge Winter Games! You'll find more information on how to get started in the "How to Participate" section below.

Meet our Slalom Superstar, Lauryn

In April of 2020, Lauryn’s world was flipped upside down when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. According to Lauryn’s mother, Melinda, “The support for Lauryn and our family from the medical team at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and Maine Children’s Cancer Program began the second we walked in.”

From the start, Lauryn has approached her diagnosis with positivity and bravery. “Throughout her admissions and outpatient chemotherapy she has had the best care,” Melinda says. “The providers at BBCH and Maine Children’s Cancer Program have become like a second family to Lauryn. They have helped her through some incredibly hard and uncomfortable days. They have also celebrated and laughed alongside her during the bright days.”

With around 200 days of treatment left, Lauryn has steadfastly stuck to her motto: "sunny days ahead." Despite her ongoing battle, 14-year-old Lauryn tries to make the most of every second, and is looking forward to continuing to give back to the team that has been by her side throughout her journey with cancer.

Thanks to our generous sponsors
