How does movement connect to fundraising?
Move for Meals is like a walk-a-thon, except you choose your level of activity. You can ask your loved ones to “sponsor” your progress towards your activity goal (for example, a $30 donation for every day you walk 10,000 steps, because that will provide 1 day of meals). If movement isn’t an option for you, you can ask your friends and family to donate to a meaningful cause and tell them why providing meals to neighbors with serious illnesses and their families matters to you. Participants can access our fundraising toolkit full of ideas for stress-free fundraising.
What’s the difference between organizing my own campaign and participating in the September Community Campaign?
With your own campaign, you can bring together a team to Move for Meals during a month of your choosing (for example, wellness month at your workplace). Email events@foodandfriends.org to get started!
Our September Community Campaign is our biggest Move for Meals month, filled with community events and activities. It’s a great way to meet other caring community members. Sign up as an individual or start a team with your friends and family on our website.
Either one you choose, you are directly helping neighbors receive the meals they rely on.
Is there a minimum fundraising amount?
Our neighbors in need welcome any amount you can raise on their behalf, although we recommend a minimum goal of $200 or more to provide a week of meals to someone with a serious illness.
How much do I need to move, and do I need to track my movement?
Any amount! Many of the individuals we serve are too sick to leave their home, so we do not require any set activity amount or tracking. However, we encourage using Move for Meals to do the activities you love or to get back into fitness. We also welcome healthy competition, whether that’s tracking steps taken, time moved, or distance traveled to out do your loved ones.
Is there a registration fee?
To sign-up, you will be asked to make a $30 donation that will go towards your overall fundraising goal. If your fundraising goal is $200, your page will show $170 remaining after you've officially signed up. You can also increase your donation beyond $30 when you sign up!
If I set my fundraising goal above $200, am I committing to raise that amount?
No, set a goal of raising at least $200, but if you aim for $500 and do not reach it, we appreciate your efforts all the same as long as you hit $200!
What happens if I do not fundraise $200?
We will send you encouragement and fundraising tips! We know you can do it! If you have not reached $200 by October 4th at the end of the September Community Campaign, we will ask that you cover the difference to support Food & Friends.
What is the difference between an individual or a team?
You can participate as an individual without a team
or you can invite your friends to join you on a team through the "invite" link on your participant page
or you can join a team of a pre-existing participant when you register by selecting them in the dropdown menu
All team members also have their own individual page. Individual pages will track individual activity and fundraising points/status and the team page will combine all of the team members’ individual points and fundraising.
Should I ask my network to join my team or just donate?
Share with them the details about both! They can either join your team and participate in the month-long activity as well and raise at least $200 or they can make a one time donation to you.
Can I join the event after September 1st?
Yes, you can join at any time!
Do I have to track my activities on my page?
No, but it can be fun to post photos and updates of your movement so you can inspire others! The activities show on your own page and on the overall event timeline, which is exciting to see.
