Welcome to Owen's Head Shave and Hair Donation Challenge, in support of the Cross Cancer Institute.

Date: March 1st - 31st, 2021

*Owen will be shaving his head on Facebook Live on March 20 at 12PM, participants can choose a date convenient to them.*

Hi! My name is Owen, I am 11 years old and in Grade 6. I have been growing my hair for about 3 years. I was planning to shave it at the Hair Massacure fundraiser last year.

Sadly, last year my Opa was very ill from Leukemia and passed away a few weeks before the 2020 Hair Massacure event was to take place. It was very hard on my family, so I was unable to fundraise and covid also made it complicated to participate.

My hair was long last year, but not long enough to donate for a wig. So I decided to keep growing it for the next year.

Unfortunately, the Hair Massacure has been permanently cancelled. I would like to raise money to donate to the Cross Cancer Institute (via Alberta Cancer Foundation). I want to raise money for cancer because family members like my Opa, Oma and Aunt, and others I know have fought cancer. Most of them were treated at the Cross Cancer Institute. Some of them lost their battles, and some are survivors. I am proud of all of them. Most of them lost their hair due to cancer treatments, so I will shave my head in their honour and collect donations in memory of my Opa.

Now, I have a lot of hair that can be used for a wig. I don't want it to go to waste. I would like to donate my hair to a place that makes wigs for sick kids.

100% of donations received will go toward the Cross Cancer Institute.

I am a first year Scout with the 169th Glen Allen Scouts group. Although this cause means enough to me to do this without reward, I was excited when I found out my fundraising project counts as a project towards my Cubs Seeonee Award and my Scouts Community Badge.

THE CHALLENGE:

I would like to ask my Scouts group, family, and friends to support my cause by helping me spread the word about my fundraiser.

I also challenge everyone to consider shaving their head, collecting donations, and/or donating long hair for a wig.
