About SCWB

Sickle Cell Warriors or Buffalo, SCTPN Chapter (SCSB) began in 2017 as a peer group of young adults living with sickle cell disease.  The group has evolved and grown to become SCWB.  We want to see people living with sickle cell disease flourish. to live healthier and longer lives.  We are proud to serve the SCD Community in Buffalo.

Why Participate?

SCWB celebrates 4-years of walking to raise awareness and funds for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).

This is the first year that the walk will be held in person and virtually on Zoom, and the theme for this celebration is #SCWBWalk2022 #EveryStepYouTake #ShinestheLightonSickleCellDisease.  When you register your team or register as an individual walker, you will receive a link to register on Zoom for the kickoff on August 21, and the walk on September 03 simulcast on Zoom and FB Live If you plan to participate virtual.

Your team will have 3-weeks to complete 30,000 steps (24kilometer or 15 miles). This is not mandatory.

The walk takes place on September 103, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  The walk will be hosted on Zoom and Streamed on Facebook Live @SCWBWalk.

SCWB seeks to raise $30,000 with your support.  Every Step You Take will enable SCWB to:

  •  Provide Undergraduate Scholarships to young adults matriculated in an accredited   college.
  •  Continue its mission to deliver Public Outreach & Educational Services (POES) Forums to   raise public awareness and knowledge of sickle cell disease.
  •  Expand its Transitions Program for adolescents moving from pediatrics onto adult care,   and provide Care Coordination for adults who do not have a primary care physician or   medical home.
  •  Stay connected to the sickle cell disease community throughout New York State,   Nationally, and Internationally.
  •  Turn on you Fitness app, Pedometer app or download a pedometer from your favorite   app store to help you log and keep track of your steps.

You can support the achievement of this year’s $30,000 fundraising goal by registering a walk team and asking friends, family, co-workers, and congregation, civic or social organization to join your team to help you raise funds.

Don’t forget to set a goal for your team!
