Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHFBM) is hosting one of our primary fundraisers of the year, Carolinas Student Hunger Drive. This community-wide event has students from 7 area high schools participating in a drive that will engage them in meeting a crucial community need while introducing them to service and philanthropy.
During the Hunger Drive, students plan and execute their own food and funds drives. They set goals for their school while “competing” with other schools for honor of being named top fundraiser at the end of the competition. During the drive, students receive education on hunger, learn about volunteerism, and work with the Food Bank and their school mentor / teacher to organize their drive.
In 2021, an estimated 53 million people accessed food assistance programs across the U.S., and in Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina’s 24 county service region (serving over 950 partner agencies), over 489,000 people, live in poverty including over 159,000 children and 52,000 seniors.
